RESTAURANTS/SHOPPING/MUSEUMS

The best way to find current events is Time Out Magazine and New York Magazine, which can be viewed online.

I would suggest that you call ahead and reserve, as most of these restaurants are quite busy!!

East 57th Street, TEODORA, favorite Italian restaurant, down the block, on the same side of the street as the apt building..ask for Roberta or Giancarlo, the owners, you can say you are staying in one of our apts!! They know us very well!!

OPIA, cattycorner to 57th and Lexington, upstairs, happening bar/restaurant, late or cocktail time

LE COLONIALE French/Vietnamese upstairs is more fun, excellent food, Yoko Ono eats there alot!!

P J CLARKE'S 55th and Third, you can see it from the apt, best burgers in town!! And make sure to see the building! The owner was offered a fortune to sell, refused and they built a skyscraper over him!! A true NYC treasure.

ROSA MEXICANA, 58th and 1st Avenue, makes the best guacamole right in front of you in the world!! This is not your typical taco restaurant, but upscale, fun, the best Latin food! Great filet mignon with "hongos" Mexican mushrooms, Tequila sauce, yummmm! I saw John Kennedy Jr in there more than once!! There are two ROSAS, one on West 62nd Street, the other East Side.

A little farther away is DOS CAMINOS, another upscale but ''''''downtown '''''' Mexican restaurant, very hip and great food..located on Park Avenue South.

FUSCHA, across the street from ROSA MEXICANA, 58TH and 1st Avenue..they make Japanese, Chinese food, for example Duck spring rolls, and sushi..very very good, a great choice one of those nights you are too tired to go far away!!

LES SANS COULOTTES 57th and 2nd, just one block. Not fancy, but you feel as though you are in a French bistro. 3 course meal is $22!! Best mussels w/white wine in NYC, I don ''''''t know how they do it for the price. Start w/ fresh vegetables, a sauce, coldcut meats (salami, sausages, cheese) pate and wonderful bread. Then you pick the 2nd course, desserts are chocolate mousse, cr''' me brulee, so good!

L'ENTRECOTE ''''''1st Avenue between 57th and 58th Streets..an adorable French bistro, you feel as though you are in Paris (except the customers are all American!!) the food is wonderful, reasonably priced, a great place the night you are too tired too travel far!!

Downtown, the Meatpacking District, most happening part of the city. BALTHAZAR, 60 Spring St, a huge seafood specialty, French bistro, a must to see, dinner or a drink. MACELLERIA, Italian food, great, the owner lives in 157 East 57th St!! PASTIS, another French bistro, great fun, HOTEL GANESVOORT, across street from PASTIS, bar upstairs with wonderful views of the city..Soho...NOBU, owned by Robert De Niro, if you can get in, the best Japanese food! also a NOBU on West 57th Street; Noho, Tribeca, Village, Lower East Side...over 25,000 restaurants!! And the food is great almost everywhere, you will find so many places in the neighborhood and all over NYC.

Shopping

Daffys 57th and Lexington/Park..sells all the designer clothes discounted. You can find some fabulous clothes, perfumes, soaps, luggage, like a department store but discounted.

For Silk dresses shirts, jackets Carlisle Edition (this is a fairly famous brand, you may have seen it in your local department store) 423 West 55th Street, you can visit and buy wholesale ''''''

Bloomingdales 58th and Third/Lexington, one block away.

All along Lexington Ave, from 57th Street up is nothing but shops.

Electronics: Make sure you shop, compare, and bargain!! Don ''''''t pay the asking price, especially the shops along 42nd Street, Lexington Avenue etc..perhaps the best way is ebay!! Best Buy is great, West 34th has many, many shops for computers etc. Lexington and 56th Street has a electronics shop where many people get great buys.

TJ Maxx near 34th Street, great designer clothes for '''' the price. Also toiletries, luggage, kitchen goods, just about everything in a department store! A must

Museums

You are walking distance from the Museum of Modern Art, and if weather permitting, also the Metropolitan Museum. 72nd Street, on your way to the Met, is worth looking, many galleries and smaller museums, from 5th Avenue to Madison and up..as you leave the 50's and walk uptown, you can take 5th Avenue, just in front of Central Park, look at the fabulous mansions, embassies, and architecture as you stroll uptown. After the museums, you can return walking down either Park Avenue or Madison, and carefully view the buildings, the most interesting townhouses and shops.
