Guestbook comments from the owner:
Overall experience was awesome. We originally were booked at The Bliss but were changed to the Grand Mayan at check in, not completely sure why. We had a ground floor 2 bedroom unit for my husband, myself and two small children. The space was great, tons of room, two bathrooms and main living room and kitchen area. We looked out to the golf course.. but unfortunately there's a road in between where the shuttle trollies are constantly coming and going (not quiet, or private). After the first night of listening to the trollies we asked to switch rooms and they promptly made the adjustment to the opposite side of the building looking out over the grounds and jungle. MUCH better.
We were in building 12 which is about as far away from the main pool area and beach as possible. That is one draw back of the property, it is just so large that to get to the beach from our room was potentially a 3 or 4 min wait for the trolly, a 5 min ride and a good 8 min walk to the beach. It was OK, just a lot of wasted travel time and some complaints from the kids.
There is a lot to explore on the property, iguanas everywhere, crocodiles, flamingos and sea life of course. We also attended the Cirque de Soleil show which was wonderful. Even our 2 year old was amazed and captivated nearly the whole time.
We made our way through the restaurants which were all top notch. We really enjoyed Blue Fish, Nektar and Cafe de Lago for casual breakfast and lunch.
The pools area slightly too cool for my comfort. The first few days of our visit it was very windy and mid 70's which made swimming almost uncomfortable. But the last few days it was calmer and 82 and they felt much more refreshing.
I wish the property had hot tubs, a drinking water source in the hotel buildings (had to buy at the store and walk it back every time)... and another coffee shop (line was always extremely long).
Overall a great experience and we would return.
Had a great time with the family! The pools were large and it didn't feel crowded at all.
The Mayan Palace is a fantastic destination for couples and families. This was our 2nd trip to this property, but the first time with this Manager. David was amazing at giving us insights we didn't have, even though we had stayed here before. He made sure we were well taken care of so that everything with our trip would run smoothly. He communicated clearly and quickly with me, which I appreciated as we were trying to plan our travel with a short time frame. We will definitely travel with this Manager again! The hotels of Vidanta are fantastic and this is a resort we plan to attend for many years to come!
It was very accommodating for a family vacation, easy to get around for how huge it is....good food, friendly prompt service, would go back again for sure!
The Mayan Palace is without question an over the top resort! With it's impeccable beauty and natural surroundings it is one of our favorite destination resorts. Strolling over the many raised walkways throughout the resort one feels as though they are in the jungle (especially at night). It is not only fascinating, but actually romantic! The pool is perhaps the best one we have ever enjoyed as it rambles through the resort and takes up several acres. Plenty of chairs to accommodate whether one chooses the pool area or the beautiful sandy beach. Dining was excellent with many restaurant choices and exceptional cuisine...there was not a bad choice in the lot. Our group of three couples used taxis to see the sites of Tulum (Mayan ruins), beautiful town of Playa del Carmen and the smaller quaint towns in both directions of the resort.
Our particular unit was luxurious (marble and stone abound) and centrally located with easy access to all amenities. The entire staff and housekeepers were nice, friendly and most helpful. Our experience was amazing and we can't wait to go back. We certainly will choose this particular unit for our next visit! The managers David and Becky were wonderful and a delight. Everything was as promised...and more.
